"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Father of compassion and God of all comfort." ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3 NIV
Our God is not the God of some comfort. He is the God of all comfort.
Lord, may we not forget that.
Eugene Peterson's "The Message" has this take on 2 Corinthians 1:3 -
"All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us. We have plenty of hard times that come from following the Messiah, but no more so than the good times of his healing comfort — we get a full measure of that, too."
That bears repeating: we get full measure of His healing comfort. Full.
God is never half-baked.
Remember that, Mayang. Remember that, friends.
You know what I like most about the version of this passage from "The Message?" I like that he focuses not only the fact that we are the recipients of God's full comfort, we are also given the opportunity to be His comfort to other people. We are part of the full measure of His comfort.
You and I. We are a part of that. Can you imagine?
So if someone needs a hug, please don't hesitate to take them into your arms. Sometimes, that's all it takes really. No need for words. Just hugs.
