For Zippy

I wish you laughter

that rumbles through your belly
that makes your tummy ache
that gets you teary eyed
that gets you snorting
(or maybe that only applies to me)

I wish you laughter

like the guffaws you shared with a visiting friend
laughter your wife had not heard from you for so long

It saddens me that it’s been years since you’ve laughed that hard
It gladdens me that you got there recently

I wish you laughter

And I pray it does not take years for mirth to visit you again

(Well, what do you know! Mayang writes a poem that doesn't rhyme!)
